The historic Khongjom War Memorial became the centre of patriotic celebrations on Friday as HQ 28 Sector Assam Rifles organised a band display and cultural programme to mark India's 79th Independence Day and honour the bravery of Operation Sindoor.
The event combined military pride with Manipur's cultural heritage and drew large participation from across the region.
The programme was attended by additional DIG, HQ 28 Sector Assam Rifles Col Imon Mukherjee, SP Kakching Priyadarshini Laishram, social worker Ksh Kennedy, 46 Assam Rifles CO Col Shivendra, officials from Assam Rifles and their families; and senior civil society members from Kakching and Thoubal districts.
Organisers said that the presence of military and civil representatives reflected the strong ties between the armed forces, administration and local communities.
Students of Assam Rifles Public School, Kakching, performed a cultural programme highlighting youthful enthusiasm and local tradition.
The Khukri Dance drew applause for its display of martial heritage and precision.
The Pipe Band of 46 AR played patriotic tunes while the Jazz Band added a contemporary flair, with the mix of traditional and modern music kept the audience engaged.
Residents, families and children attended in large numbers, many waving tricolours and expressing appreciation for the Assam Rifles' role in both national security and cultural promotion.
Several attendees said such events strengthen the bond between the forces and the community.
Officials said that the celebration served not only as a tribute to India's freedom struggle but also as a reminder of the responsibility to uphold the values it represents.
