Three held with drugs, anti-poppy drive continues

Imphal, March 12 2023:
In the past few days, three people were arrested with drugs as police continued drive against poppy cultivation at different parts as part of war on drugs campaign.
A release issued by Manipur police PRO informed that Tengnoupal district police team on March 7 arrested one Thangminlal Baite(23) son of Janglun Baite of Moreh ward no.1 and recovered 6.120 kg of brown sugar (including weight of soap cases) in ISO soap cases and four bundles of WY tablets weighing 4.440 kg (including the weight of packets) at Eshingkhong near Chahmol village along NH-102 from a numberless Tata Xenon white in colour.
The arrested person and the seized items have been handed over Tengnoupal police station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Kangpokpi district police, SIT, 1st Manipur Rifles, 7th Manipur Rifles, 4th & 9th IRB, and Forest department destroyed 20 acres of poppy plantation at M Ngamneh (Tolthang hill range) and Natjang hill range under the jurisdiction of Saikul PS on March 8.The same team also destroyed 21.8 acres of poppy cultivation at Tingpibung Hill range on March 9 and 7 acres of poppy plantation at Chonjang and Songbem village hill ranges under the jurisdiction of Saikul PS on March 7 .
On the other hand, Thoubal district police commando unit along with women personnel arrested one Khulakpam Abdul Ali alias Raghu (32) son of late Md Suyeb Ali of Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai, Manipur and recovered 906 grams of heroin, 936 grams of opium, 279 grams of ammonium chloride and 5 grams of brown sugar on March 9.On his disclosure, the police also arrested one Khuleibam Muhamuddin alias Ibocha (60) son of (late) Md Angou of Yaripok Changambabi Mayai Leikai and seized one double barrel gun, an empty case and ammunition from his residence.
Khuleibam Muhamuddin reportedly revealed that the seized brown sugar and heroin were manufactured at his house, further search of which led to recovery of brown sugar residue weighing 1.491 kg, utensils and lime weighing 28 kg suspected to be used in manufacturing drugs.
Both the arrested people along with seized items were handed over to Andro PS for further investigation, it added.
On the other hand, Changamdabi Muhamadan Club has lauded Manipur police team for arresting two people with huge quantity of drugs from Changamdabi Mayai Leikai.
It further demanded to give stringent punishment to those apprehended with drugs and also to arrest all those involved in the illegal activity.
