Rallies protest Waqf Amendment Bill 2025

Imphal, April 06 2025:
Mass protest rallies were taken out on Sunday in Thoubal, Kakching and Imphal East districts against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025, recently passed by both Houses of Parliament followed by the President's assent.
In Thoubal district, the rally organised by Pangal Tem (PT) commenced from the Irong Chesaba Eco Park.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the march, PT president Sayeed Alam strongly condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill, claiming that it goes against democratic principles and the interests of the Muslim community.

He urged authorities concerned to reject the Bill outright and appealed to the government of India to immediately withdraw what he described as an anti-Muslim law, in the interest of the nation as a whole and minority communities in particular.
Protesters at the rally carried placards inscribed with slogans such as "We Condemn Waqf Amendment Bill 2025", "Withdraw Waqf Amendment Bill 2025", "Down Down BJP" and "Minorities cannot be discriminated against" .
The protest was also participated by former Wabagai MLA Fajur Rahim.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was organised by Kshetrigao Meitei Pangal United Clubs, a joint body of 17 organisations of Kshetrigao and Jamiat Ulama, Kshetrigao at ABA ground on Sunday denouncing the passing of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Parliament.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protestors, claimed that the Bill has been passed to seize the properties of Waqf.
Every Waqf Board has a CEO, who for ages has been a Muslim.
However, if the Bill becomes an Act a non-Muslim can become CEO of the Board, he said, while terming as unreasonable the Bill's provision on producing documents for properties which have already been recognised as Waqf property.
The protestor also asserted that they will never accept the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and continue to hold protests till the Bill is withdrawn, initiate legal case and never compromise on rights of the Muslim community.

In Kakching district, a public rally was organised at Sora on Sunday against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which has now been assented by President Droupadi Murmu.
The rally jointly organised by Anjuman Nasrul Islam (Ulama-e-Association), Sora and All Sora Clubs' Coordinating Committee (ASC-COC) in collaboration with Islamic Students' Association (ISA), All Sora Students' Union (ASSU) and MPCM, Sora commenced from Sora Mamang Leikai Nongsha Bazar.
After passing through Sora Bazar along NH 102 and Sora High School playground, the march ended at Sora Bazar.
During the rally participated by large number of people, including women, the protestors chanted slogans and held placards such as 'We oppose the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025'; 'Withdraw the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025'; 'Save Masjid, Save Qabristan, Save Madrassa'; 'Protect Waqf Properties'; 'We Reject Waqf Amendment Bill'; 'Save the Constitution'; 'Stop Waqf Amendment Bill'; 'Stop Politicising Waqf'; 'Reject Waqf Bill, Revoke Waqf Bill', etc.
