No significant step to resolve crisis: Ex-minister

Even though the Kukis have stopped bring, people continue to die of mental and psychological disorder in the valley while government remains as silent spectator with no significant step, stated former minister L Jayantakumar Singh, Keishamthong Block Congress Committee convened a meeting on Sunday at the residence of L Jayantakumar attended by committee president Dr Mayengbam Akshaykumar and vice president Haobam Bihari, among others.
During the meeting, Jayantakumar said the more than two years Kuki-Meetei conflict in the state has affected entire section of the society and economy of the state.
Even though the Kukis have stopped firing, displaced people residing in relief camps in the valley after their houses have been either torched or destroyed and their properties overtaken continue to die due to mental illness.
Some of them have even committed suicide while many are suffering from psychological disorder.
Even at this stage, the government remains as silent spectator with no significant step to address suffering of the displaced people, he alleged adding that construction of some fabricated houses is not the solution to the crisis.
According to Jayantakumar, the present President's Rule or central administration in the state has taken no significant step to resolve the more than two years long conflict.
Even though central leaders repeatedly assured to protect territorial integrity and boundary of Manipur, people of the valley are unable to move beyond the so called buffer zone.
He continued that central forces seem to be helping those restricting movement of valley people in the hills rather than ensuring free movement.
