Imphal, October 01 2024:
Several organisations condemned acts of intimidating intellectuals, academicians and social activists belonging to Meetei community by certain organisations of the same community amidst relentless attacks by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists against innocent Meeteis and the attempt to disintegrate Manipur.
In joint statement , Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), League of Indigenous People's Up-liftment (LIPUL), Meeyamgi Pothok Puthok Lup (MPPL), Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL), Loiyalam Apunba Loumi Lup (LALLUP), Leihou Khunai Kanba Apunba Luptin (LKKAL), People's United Youth Alliance (PUYA) and Iramdam Sinpanggi Apunba Khutpu (ISAK) have appealed to specific Meetei organisations and individuals not to provoke infighting and stymie efforts being made to foster unity within the community.
The statement questioned branding human rights defender Babloo Loitongbam as anti-Meetei by Meitei Leepun and demanded proof of such a serious charge.
In case evidence could not be provided to substantiate the charges, then it could be safely construed that the same organisation is misleading the people through misinformation.
While condemning threat issued to family of Babloo as well as warning him not to take part in any public platform, the organisations appealed to the state government to look into the matter.
Taking note of the statement made by one Jos Chongtham in the media claiming that he was coerced into saying, that he forwarded a post on a Whatsapp group 'Be the change - We Sppport Oja Bimol' at the behest of some people, the joint statement advised members of Meitei Leepun to cease such acts of coercion.
Imposing restrictions by Meitei Leepun against those who have been working for the people as CSO leaders will be considered as discouraging and suppressing the leaders and an affront to the Meetei community, the organisations asserted while denouncing the attempt to suppress rights of intellectuals, academicians and social activists with the ulterior motive to settle score.
