No child labour or trafficking case: DC

Deputy commissioner Pooja Elangbam, informed that no children were found involved in child labour or trafficking during a recently conducted 15-day district-wide campaign against child trafficking and labour.
Speaking at a district-level press briefing on "Stop Child Trafficking for Labour and Other Forms of Exploitation", at L Mani Memorial Hall, Thamnapokpi, the Bishnupur deputy commissioner commended the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Bishnupur, New Life Foundation, Manipur, and stakeholders concerned for their coordinated efforts and commitment to child protection.
Highlighting the extensive awareness campaign conducted in public areas, Pooja Elangbam stated that the initiative against child labour and trafficking was carried out across multiple locations, including 23 hotels, six brickfields, 17 vehicle workshops and car washes, one plastic industry, and four cement and stone crushers.

She added that more than 170 public transport drivers had previously pledged to report any cases of child trafficking or suspected labour exploitation.
The DC also commended the participation of various stakeholders - including the police, local communities, and the public - in making the campaign impactful.
"This has been an intensive and collaborative effort," Pooja noted, adding that this was the third such drive in the district.
Unlike the previous two campaigns, which had resulted in the rescue and safe repatriation of children, no cases were detected this time, she reiterated.
The DC emphasised that the initiative reflects the district's commitment to upholding the Constitution of India, which prohibits child trafficking and exploitation in all forms, in accordance with the Supreme Court's directives and the mandates of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the state government.
"We are committed to ensuring the safety, dignity, and protection of childhood, and to preventing all forms of exploitation in the district," the DC said.
The event Was also attended by district child protection officer Indrani Chongtham, New Life Foundation secretary L Pishak, members of the District Child Welfare Committee, police officials, and other stakeholders.
