Ukhrul, Kamjong celebrate 79th I-Day

Ukhrul District Administration celebrated India's 79th Independence Day on Friday at Bakshi ground, Dungrei with DC Asish Das as the chief guest who hoisted the national flag and took the salute from participating contingents.
Addressing the gathering, DC Das paid tribute to the countless freedom fighters and leaders and acknowledged their courage and selflessness that paved the way for the democratic, diverse and sovereign India of today.
He noted the past year as a year of change for Ukhrul, citing impactful developmental initiatives and successful growth that have enhanced the district 's visibility both statewide and nationally.

He also reaffirmed the administration's commitment to transparent governance, community engagement, and sustainable development, acknowledging the instrumental support of the people of Ukhrul.
In an inspiring call, Das urged that Ukhrul be known not by what it lacks but what it dares to dream.
Chingai SDPO Chongtham Sarjan Singh served as the Parade Commander for the event, which featured 43 contingents in the march past.
Prizes for the march past were awarded to Oriental Naga Academy (girls) for first place, Sonyao Academy of Innovative Learning (SAIL) for second, and Savior High School (boys) for third.
The celebrations also witnessed a cultural programme, showcasing a Tangkhul Naga dance by the Soraphung Cultural Dance troupe, a role play on the Right to Education (RTE) by Sihai Khunou Primary School, a martial art display by the Ukhrul District Karate- Do Association, and a band performance by the 18th Assam Rifles.
In recognition of dedicated service, 96 appreciation certificates were distributed to various departmental employees for their relentless contributions.
The vote of thanks for the event was delivered by ADC Ukhrul Polly Makan.
Dignitaries present included Ukhrul SP Ningshem Vashum, various departmental officials, civil society organisations, and members of the public.
The Kamjong district administration also celebrated the 79th Independence Day at Kamjong Higher Secondary School.
ADM HL Jain attended the event as the chief guest, joined by ASP Kh Herojit Singh, AC to DC Syed Amjad Ali, Platoon Commander Worthing Jajo, and Commander 8 AR Sashi Kumar.
The ceremony featured a march past involving 29 contingents, alongside cultural dances and folk songs performed by the Social Welfare ICDS.
Around 1,300 individuals attended the event, demonstrating strong community participation.
