Imphal, July 14 2024:
Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that peace has been restored in Manipur, he should remove the buffer zones between the hills and the valley, said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Manipur Activity coordinator Biswanath Thingnam.
Addressing a press meet at Thangjing Hall of Manipur Press Club on Sunday, Biswanath said that PM Modi has repeatedly claimed peace and normalcy has been restored in Manipur.
Since the PM of the country had said so, the buffer zones between the hills and the valley should be removed.
The broken communication between the hill and the valley should be restored so as assist in restoring peace in the state, he urged.
Biswanath further said that India should stop treating Manipur as a colony and stop using the British-era divide-and-rule policy.
He then questioned the PM's basis of mentioning the 1992-93 clashes in the parliament, stating that it took 5-6 years to resolve the same.
Urging for making the content of the talks between the union External Affairs minister and China's foreign minister public, he said that the effect of the conflict in Myanmar on Manipur is being questioned.
Both the central and state governments should make the status of the federal structure between them clear to the people, he stated, while stressing the need to take up all necessary measures to restore normalcy in Manipur.
Appreciating MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam for raising Manipur's issue in the parliament, Biswanath informed that AAP, Manipur has conferred the name, "Midnight MP" to MP Bimol.
He then extended his condolences to the bereaved family of a relief camp resident who committed suicide.
