DMCTE Asst Profs recruited for short term: Education (U)

Higher and Technical Education (U) additional director P Shantikumar has clarified that the government order for recruitment on contract basis of four assistant professors at DM College of Teacher Education (DMCTE) has been done under engagement for a short term only.
Addressing media persons at RMSA office, here, on Sunday, Shantikumar informed that there is only one teacher for Education in DMCTE which presently has 400 students of BEd and MEd.
Considering the shortage of teachers in the institute, two assistant professors were recruited on contract basis with the recruitment result declared in February 2024 although the formal process started in 2021.Among the newly recruited assistant professors included one who had completed both BEd and MEd and another holding Bed degree, he said.
Tough no teacher can be recruited on contract basis as per the NCTE guidelines, one assistant professor each for English and Manipuri subjects were recruited under UGC norms in the interest of the students as there was no teacher for the said subjects.
Further informing that there are 110 students pursuing English and four in Manipuri department of the institute, the additional director maintained that engagements of teachers were not done on permanent basis but for short term until direct recruitment is done.
P Shantikumar further informed that a new chairman of Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) has been appointed on March 15 after the commission remained defunct for some time.
A proposal for recruiting the vacant posts of assistant professors in DMCTE following the guidelines of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under MPSC will be made, he added.
Education (S) director L Nandakumar, who was also present at the media briefing, said that as there was no eligible candidate who has completed diploma in Nursery Teacher Education/Pre-School Education/Early Childhood Education Programme or BEd (Nursery) from institutions recognised by NCTE, the essential qualification for recruitment of 1140 Pre-Primary teachers was relaxed to Class XII passed.
Moreover, 90 percent of the salary of these engaged teachers will be provided by the central government while 10 percent will be borne by the state government.
As fund for the said engaged teachers has already been sanctioned by the central government and might get lapsed if recruitment process was not done, notification for the recruitment was issued, he elaborated, adding that the fund has not only saved from returning to the centre, but a total of 1140 persons have been provided jobs.
