PAL commences Golden Jubilee Celebration

Governor Anusuiya Uikey attended the inaugural function of the yearlong golden jubilee celebration of Progressive Artiste Laboratory (PAL) as chief guest at the complex of PAL in Lam-boi Khongnangkhong Lane no 10, Uripok Kangchup Road on Wednesday.
During the event, the Governor also unveiled the statue of Guru Thiyam Tarunkumar Singh, named 'Statue of Imagery', and offered floral tributes.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Anusuiya congratulated PAL and its members on achieving the remarkable milestone and also for playing a vital role in bringing together different communities through cultural and community activities.
She noted that the organisation has been spearheading in promoting the rich cultural heritage of Manipur and contributing to the cultural heritage and integration amongst the people of the state.
The Governor also urged gurus and artistes of PAL, particularly the teaching staff to be guided and motivated by the noble activities of Guru Tarunkumar in promoting the rich cultural heritage of this state, not only in Manipur but also in different parts of the country.
She mentioned the establishment of Tarunkumar Dance Academy, Lahore and Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Natya Kala Mandir in Nabadip, West Bengal by Guru Tarunkumar in 1948, which had been a matter of pride for the state.
Hailing the unique culture and tradition of Manipur, she highlighted the importance of promoting cultural exchange programmes for building a healthy relation between a state and its people.
Artistes should never forget that hard work always brings success, she said, while stressing the need to assess and monitor the relationship between culture and technology.
She then gave assurances of extending all possible support from her side with regard to propagation and promotion of Manipur's rich cultural heritage.
Manipur University former VC Prof Hijam Tombi Singh and retired IAS officer Kangjam Radhakumar also attended the inaugural function as president and guest of honour respectively.
A souvenir was also released to mark the event.
During the function, the Guru Thiyam Tarunkumar Memorial Gold Medal for this year was awarded to flute artiste Rk Chinglensana, while S Goutam Singh dedicated a cash award of Rs 10,000 in the name of Sorokhaibam (o) Hemamanjuri Devi for the physically challenged artistes, presented to W Sanatomba.
E Premjit dedicated a cash award of Rs 10,000 in memory of Elangbam (o) Purnimashi, presented to Y Sunin Singh and O Surmila Devi.
Additionally, the recipients of Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award 2022, Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship 2022 and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (Akademi Puraskar) were honoured with gifts.
