In this regard, UCO president Moirangthem Brojen said that during heavy or moderate rainfall, most of the water flow towards Kakching Wairi as Kakching is a low laying area.
However, absence of proper drainage system in addition to encroachments on the drains, is causing huge inconveniences to the people.
To prevent such situations, UCO after consulting the district administration has been cleansing the drains since 2019.However, the work was temporary halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the conflict that broke out in the state last year.
As the monsoon season is almost here, the organisation began de-clogging the drains and removing the encroachments from Kakching Khongnang Mari Phangba to Kha Manipur College Kakching, he added.
Stating that UCO does not receive any money from the government with regard to this work, Brojen said MLAs of Kakching and Wabagai ACs, caretaker councillors of Kakching Ward nos 1, 2, 3 and 7, Kakching Municipal Council and private individuals have been extending support till date.
As such, he urged all those encroaching and piling items in Kakching Wairi, to withdraw by May 26, failing which the same would be removed in collaboration the district administration.
