Senapati, April 06 2025:
Khongdei (Dumai/Khudaime) Union has appealed to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to intervene and accelerate construction of the Senapati-Phaibung Road (SP Road), emphasising its critical importance for public welfare and regional development.
In a letter addressed to the Governor, the Union highlighted that the road project was sanctioned under a special development package initiated by the Prime Minister (vide No 11/2/2001-NFSC (Vol-II), dated November 1, 2001) to improve connectivity in some of the most remote and underserved regions between Senapati and Ukhrul districts.
The project, funded in a 90:10 ratio by the central and state governments respectively, was assigned to the 25 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) as the executing agency.
The Union then requested that the BRTF be allowed to complete the regaining works without transferring responsibility to the state Public Works Department (PWD) or private contractors, citing the BRTF's proven efficiency and commitment to maintaining quality standards.
It further urged that no political figure, government official, or private individual be permitted to interfere in or obstruct the progress of the project for personal or political interests.
Such interferences, it warned, could significantly hamper progress and adversely affect the wellbeing of the entire community.
In addition, the Union extended its sincere appreciation to the SP Road Development Committee for "their relentless efforts and unwavering commitment towards the successful completion of this vital project" .
