INSAS LMG, 'pumpi' among 18 arms surrendered

In a significant step towards fostering peace and stability, representatives from various communities in Churachandpur district voluntarily returned 18 arms and associated ammunition to the Indian Army and Manipur Police on Tuesday.
This development follows an appeal made by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on February 20, urging individuals to hand over illegal weapons as part of ongoing peace efforts.
The surrendered weapons include six 7.62mm Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), three .303 rifles, an INSAS 5.56 LMG, a heavy country-made mortar (pumpi), two additional country-made mortars (pumpi), four country-made rockets, and a Lathode UBGL, along with 13 pumpi bombs.

The weapons were surrendered following sustained engagement between the Indian Army, Manipur Police, and key community leaders, elders, and representatives of civil society organisations.
