Training on agroforestry concludes

Kakching, February 21 2025: A three-day training programme on 'Enhancing Agroforestry System through Efficient Tree Seed Propagation Techniques under AICRP on Seed (Crops) Project' held at Kanemram village, Chandel district concluded nn Thursday.

The training was organised by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Manipur Centre in collaboration with ICAR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel with an aim to train farmers on effective seed propagation techniques and sustainable agricultural practices for economically valuable tree species of Manipur.

The programme was conducted under the course coordinator of ICAR Manipur Centre genetics and plant breeding scientist Dr K Sarika and agroforestry scientist Dr L Chanu Langlentombi with the valedictory function attended by ICAR-Manipur Centre head Dr Ch Basudha Devi, KVK Chandel senior scientist and head Dr Ameeta Devi, Kanemram village chief Sanyao Piyao and secretary Maku Paiso as presidium members.

Speaking at the event, Dr Ch Basudha highlighted the crucial role of tree plantation in enhancing both public health and farmer income.

She also emphasised the nutritional value of fruit-bearing trees, while advocating for their inclusion in local diets.

She further informed that promotion of agroforestry practices will purify air, prevent erosion, and combat climate change.

Dr Ameeta Devi, Dr L Chanu Langlentombi, ICAR-KVK, Chandel SMS (plant breeding) Ts Leenda Monsang, SMS (agronomy) Dr Kl Levish, SMS (agri engineering) Dr K Sonamani Singh and SMS (horticulture) Ps Lavid Anal were the resource persons of the training.

During the valedictory programme, certificates and inputs were distributed to 32 participants.
