Technical members leave for Thang-Ta tourney

Imphal, May 19 2024: A five-member technical team led by Thang-Ta Federation of India (TTFI) chairman (technical) Huidrom Premkumar, sponsored by Apunba Khorirolgi Malemgi Lup, Manipur, left on Sunday to provide technical support for the 1st RK Madhuryyajit Thang-Ta Trophy 2024 organised by Assam Thang-Ta Association at South Barak Guest House, Binakandi, Cachar, Assam on May 23 and 24 .

In a release, Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur secretary Heikrujam Cha Babu informed that the tournament will be participated by players and officials from various districts of Assam.

TTFI along with its affiliated units has been striving to promote the sport at national and international level with the ultimate aim to make it an Olympic sport.

The effort is reaping fruit as the traditional Manipuri sport is getting public and institutional recognition and increasing number of youths taking part in competitions held across the country, besides inclusion of Thang-Ta in the 4th, 5th & 6th Khelo India Youth Games as medal event, it noted.

The release, however, rued that in-spite of Federation's efforts aspirations of Thang-Ta players remain unfulfilled, thereby entailing concerted efforts from the state government for development of the sport.
