Grads urged to seek PSU, PSE jobs

Government Polytechnic College, Imphal principal Likmabam Shamungou has encouraged engineering graduates to explore job opportunities in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) outside the state.
He made the appeal during a one-day seminar on "Career Guidance for Diploma Engineering Students in PSU/PSE", organised by Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] Manipur State Centre at its seminar hall in the Government Polytechnic campus.
Attending as the chief guest, Shamungou said that there are more than 8,000 engineering colleges and over 4,000 diploma colleges in India, producing 1.5 million engineering graduates and about 800,000 diploma holders annually.
Noting that such large output has created significant unemployment issues, he advised students not to wait solely for government jobs,, but to look for opportunities in PSUs and PSEs across the country.
He added that many alumni of the college have already secured employment in PSUs and PSEs both within and outside the state.
Shamungou said that the'seminar aimed to provide proper guidance to diploma holders and graduates seeking employment in these sectors in other states.
IEI Manipur State Centre chairman L Swamikanta, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited former senior general manager Laimayum Amarjit Sharma, Government Polytechnic College senior lecturer Rameshwar Meitei Athokpam, and IEI Manipur State Centre honorary secretary Dr Th Subhaschandra attended the seminar as presidium members.
