Imphal, April 04 2025:
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) organised a one-day discourse on 'Educational textbooks and manuals' at the Imphat College multipurpose hall on Friday.
During the discourse moderated by Dr Naorem Sanatomba, various resolutions were adopted including preparation of syllabus/ manuals suitable for the state and immediate introduction of the same; forming and enforcing guidelines to reduce the physical and mental burden on students due to heavy school bags; implementing the above two resolutions in all CBSE schools in the state; full implementation of NEP to teach mother tongue till Class VIII to ensure further propagation of Manipuri language; and for law enforcement agencies to encourage and take action in matters monitored by MSF.
Speaking on the occasion, MSF president Hijam Roshan noted that the youth of the state after their studies would be participating in both global and national changes.
"As such, the syllabus taught to the students need to be of high quality.
For this, subject experts need to be on their toes with the changes all over the world," he reasoned.
Furthermore, students should be aware of their own culture.
Taking all of these into consideration, an expert committee needs to be formed to prepare the textbooks in such a way that it would be easily comprehensible for the students.
This will help in assessing the past and present of the state, he said.
Roshan then observed that while discussing different civilisations, Manipur seems to be often overlooked.
There is a need to discuss it all as every part of Manipur civilisation cannot be ignored.
This is even more important for students and there is a need for Manipur to be able to walk alongside the changes sweeping all over the world, he remarked.
Stressing the need to monitor whether the books being studied on top of those published by BSEM are beneficial to the students of the state or not, he opined that if it is beneficial, then discussions should be held on how to make it even more beneficial for the students.
Roshan also urged the expert committee to expand these considerations to CBSE schools and also take into account the happiness curriculum with regard to students carrying heavy bags which are putting stress on their physical and mental health.
The discourse was also attended by Education (S) director Ng Bhogendra Meitei, COHSEM secretary Khundrakpam Ashikumar, BOSEM chairman Akham Joykumar, SCERT director Aheibam Romen, All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association president L Joy Khuman, Association of Manipur Teacher Education Institute (AMTEI) president Ranjan Yengkokpam, Manipur State Film and Television Institute former director Bi-rendra Salam and Ibotombi Institute of Education of Education principal Dr RK Bjen as resource persons.
