'Painting for Peace' contest draws 215 young artists

Imphal, February 28 2025:
A painting competition titled 'Painting for Peace' was held at the Imphal Peace Museum, Maibam Lotpa Ching - also known as Red Hills - in Bishnupur district on Friday.
Jointly organised by Imphal Peace Museum and Manipur Tourism Forum with an aim to inspire young-minds to envision a harmonious world through art, the competition was participated by 215 students from various schools in two categories - Group A (Class IV to VI) and Group B (Class VII to X) .
Highlight of the event included a discussion on the importance of peace, particularly in the context of Manipur's rich yet tumultuous history.

Imphal Peace Museum director Haobam Joyremba spoke about the devastating impacts of World War II and the ongoing need for harmony and mutual respect.
Short films and archival footages from World War-II were also screened, offering the students a stark reminder of the horrors of armed conflict.
The prize distribution ceremony held in the afternoon was attended by Babina Groups chairman Dr Thangjam Dhabali, Haobam Joyremba, and Manipur Tourism Forum president P Kunjabihari.
In their speeches, Dr Dhabali commended the participants and highlighted the power of creativity in fostering a culture of peace as Haobam Joyremba urged the youth to nurture empathy and compassion in their daily lives, and P Kunjabihari stressed the importance of integrating tourism with cultural and educational initiatives to showcase Manipur's commitment to spreading positive messages.
In Group A, Anarika Thiyam Devi of St John's English High School bagged the first prize, followed by Thokchom Korounganba of Innovative Academy in second place and the third shared by Leimapokpam Allina Devi and Oinam Chaoba Devi of St John's .
In Group B, the first prize was secured by Thokchom Mecci of Modern High er Secondary School, while Haorongbam Alok Meitei of the same school wrest the second prize with the third position also shared by Pheiroijam Sharsina Devi of St John's English High School and Linthoi Ningthoujam of Modern Higher Secondary School.
The winners were presented certificate and cash prize.
Their prize-winning artworks will be displayed in the Imphal Peace Museum's gallery for a month.
