Dr Rameshori honoured with 'Young Scientist Award'

National Academy of Environmental Sciences, Haridwar, conferred its prestigious Young Scientist Award' to Manipur University's Department of.
Zoology assistant professor Dr Rameshori Yumnam.
Dr Rameshori received the award from the chancellor of Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar, and former Union Minister of State for Human Resources Dr Satya Pal Singh in a function on Tuesday.
A trained freshwater ichthyologist, Dr Rameshori has been working in various fields related to freshwater fisheries of the Eastern Himalayas during the past decade.
Her research activities encompass the areas of freshwater ichthyology, integrative taxonomy and systematic aquatic biodiversity exploration in the region, while divulging into the threats and opportunities in freshwater biodiversity.
She has also worked in innovations for climate change, conservation and sustainable aquaculture of North East India and the adjoining areas in recent years.
To her credit, Dr Rameshori has discovered several new species of fishes in the region, some of which are new to science.
She has pub lished many research articles and papers in various reputed national and international journals.
She currently leads the Freshwater Ichythyology and Sustainable Aquaculture Laboratory (FISA-Lab) which is involved in several projects related to the biodiversity of the region.
She is also presently involved in various capacity building and outreach trainings on Ornamental Fish Farming, Conservation of Mahseer and Endemic fishes, and on climate resilient technologies including Recirculatory Aquaculture System, Aquaponics and FLOCponics for farmers and entrepreneurs in Manipur.
With research interests in DNA Barcoding, Integrative systematics, and Molecular taxonomy, Dr Rameshori focuses her scientific study on the inventory of fish diversity in North East India.
Her other focus is on the enhancement of livelihoods through sustainable aquaculture.
Some of her published scientific works include Fish Germplasm of Northeast India, Microbiome in Aquaponics: Emergent Roles and Potential Applications, Benthic Microbial Community in the Aquatic Environment, Handbook of Aquatic Microbiology, Overview of Microbial Toxins in the Aquatic Environment, Microbiome in Aquaponics, A Manual on the Identification of Fishes of Eastern Himalayas, and, Freshwater Fish Taxonomy and a Manual for Identification of Fishes of Northeast India.
