Student bodies demand AIIMS-CRE exam centre in state

Ningthoujam Dhanakumar Meitei, who is coordinator of six student bodies, has urged authorities concerned to desigpate Manipur as an examination centre for the Common Recruitment Exam (CRE) to be conducted by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Grade-IV posts at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) .
Addressing media persons at SUK's Wangkhei office on Friday, Dhanakumar said that since the outbreak of the current crisis on May 3, 2023, the people of the state have Been facing numerous challenges, including unemployment.
Despite these difficult circumstances, many candidates from the state have been preparing for the common recruitment exam for various posts, including 250 vacancies in RIMS, a central institute.
However, instead of acknowledging the challenging situation in the state, AIIMS authorities designated examination centres in other states, causing additional hardship for candidate aspirants of Manipur, he rued.
Dhanakumar explained that due to the ongoing crisis in the state, candidates from the valley areas are unable to travel by road to examination centres in neighbouring states and as such, they are left with no option other than air travel.
He, however, pointed out that given the financial hardships faced by the people of the state, the high cost of flight fares will be a significant burden for the candidates and urged the authorities concerned to designate Manipur as an examination centre for the, exam.
Dhanakumar also urged authorities concerned to allot centre in the state for any examination conducted by central institutions established in Manipur, while stating that a memorandum in this connection will be submitted to relevant authorities shortly.
He announced that the six student bodies are prepared to launch agitation if the demand is not honoured in the interest of the candidates of the state.
