Investiture ceremony of Longa Koireng Khullakpa held

Imphal, May 11 2024: SR Choungam Koireng, son of late SR Sokhel Koireng, was officially installed as the new Khullakpa (Kullak in Koireng dialect) of Longa Koireng village, located under Kangchup Geljang sub-division of Kangpokpi district.

The investiture ceremony, known as Kullakphun in Koireng dialect, took place on Friday in accordance with the customs and traditions of the tribe.

Informing this in,a press release, Longa Koireng Village Authority said that the ceremony was administered by Samson Panmei, pastor of Longa Koireng Baptist Church, and attended by guests including SDO Kangchup Geljang/Bungte Chiru Md Hefajuddin, and ASP Kangpokpi Syed Samir Ahamed.

Khullakpa and Luklakpa from various villages of Koireng Tribe also attended the occasion.

The event commenced with the traditional monolith erection (Sheiphun in Koireng dialect) at the village entry, followed by formal proceeding to the residence of the newly appointed Khullakpa.

The ceremony featured performances of unique folk songs, dances, music, and war chants specific to the Koireng tribe, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the community.

SR Choungam Koireng, a retired senior arts graduate teacher under the Education (S) department assumes the position of 10th Khullakpa of Longa Koireng village, the release added.
