CM sets condition for opening schools

Imphal, October 07 2021: Chief minister N Biren has said that the government will consider reopening of educational institutes in the state when the Covid-19 positivity rate dips down to 2-3 per cent from the present 5-6 per cent.

Speaking as chief guest of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Sainik School Imphal at Pangei on Thursday, CM Biren informed that the government is making an all-out effort to control the Covid-19 pandemic.

Informing that the state is going to implement the order of the Supreme Court of India for paying ex-gratia to families of patients who died due to Covid-19, he conveyed that the ex-gratia which will be contributed in the ratio of 50:50 by centre and state governments will soon be dispersed as per the instruction ofthecentre.

N Biren also said that he feels proud to be a Manipuri as many from the state have excelled in different fields.

Stating that Manipur has the highest ratio of defence officers compared to its population in the country, the chief minister expressed elation that 15 cadets of Sainik School, Imphal have cracked the NDA examination recently.

Apart from this, six candidates from the state have cleared the recently declared Civil Services Examination, 2020 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, he noted while expressing delight that the government's efforts through schemes like Chief Minister's Scholarship Scheme for Civil Services Aspirants have started paying dividends.

N Biren maintained that the state has been putting in best possible efforts to enhance human resource development by taking up various initiatives like Chief Minister's Scholarship for Civil Services, upgrade of Dhanamanjuri College to University and construction of medical college in Churachandpur among others.

All these developments could be possible due to restoration of peace in the state, he added.

The chief minister further assured that the state government would continue providing necessary funds for continuous maintenance of Sainik School, Imphal, apart from pressing the Union government to upgrade school infrastructure with modern facilities so as to enhance its excellence to compete with other schools.

Expressing satisfaction on the inclusion of girl cadets from the current session, he assured of providing additional funds if required for the completion of the girls' hostel, for which the foundation stone was laid on Thursday.

Earlier, after his arrival at the school campus, the chief minister laid the foundation stone for a girl's hostel to be constructed under a project of the Education Department besides inaugurating a washroom complex for girls.

During the programme, N Biren also released a coffee table book 'Odessey-50 Years' Journey' .

Education minister S Rajen Singh, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, Sainik Schools Society honorary secretary Satish Singh, retired Lt Gen Dr Konsam Himalay, retired Lt Gen LN Singh, many other serving and retired Army and paramilitary officers, high ranking officials of the government and other public figures also attended the function as invitees.
