Imphal, May 03 2025:
The United Naga Council (UNC) on Saturday strongly condemned the killing of three NSCN cadres by security forces and Assam police in the forest areas between New Kubin and Herakilua villages in the NC Hills of Assam on April 29.In a press statement, UNC described the incident as a "cold-blooded killing" and accused the Government of India of violating the ceasefire agreement with NSCN.
The slain NSCN members have been identified as Sanga Samba from Arunachal Pradesh, Gailuaning Zeme from Tamenglong, Manipur, and Haijeulungbe Daime from NC Hills, Assam.
UNC extended condolences to the families of the deceased and said that the attack gravely undermines the fragile peace process built over years of negotiations.
UNC asserted that the Naga people have abided by the ceasefire agreement since its declaration in 1997, but claimed that military raids, arrests, and violence continue unabated in Naga areas.
Such actions, it said, negate the spirit of peace talks and amount to suppressing indigenous voices through force.
UNC also criticised the government authorities for allegedly harassing and denying travel rights to Naga civil society leaders.
It cited the case of Naga People's Movement for Human Rights general secretary Neingulo Krome, who was reportedly denied permission to travel abroad in both 2020 and April 2025 without clear explanation.
Calling the treatment of peace and human rights activists a "draconian approach", UNC urged the Government of India to honour the 2015 Framework Agreement and create a conducive atmosphere for peaceful resolution of the Indo-Naga political issue.
The council called for sincere engagement from both the Government of India and NSCN to ensure lasting peace arid stability in the region.
