Senapati, October 01 2024:
All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) expressed its profound dismay at the Supreme Court's decision to dismiss criminal proceedings against 30 Indian Army personnel implicated in the killing of 14 innocent Naga civilians at Oting in Mon district, Nagaland on December 4, 2021.The tragic incident, which claimed the lives of 14 Naga people, continues to be a poignant reminder of the community's collective pain and trauma.
ANSAM had hoped for justice and accountability for the senseless and brutal loss of its people.
However, the apex court's decision to exonerate those responsible without holding them accountable was not only disheartening but also an affront to the memory of the victims and their grieving families.
The Oting incident serves as a stark reminder of the numerous atrocities and crimes committed by the Indian Armed forces under the garb of the Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA), ANSAM said in a statement.
Despite repeated appeails from the Nagas to repeal the AFSPA, extension of the draconian Taw in Manipur (excluding 19 police stations in Imphal valley) while the people are experiencing relative peace in Naga areas unlike other parts of the state was very unfortunate and highly questionable, the ANSAM said and opposed continuous arbitrary imposition of the AFSPA in Naga areas.
ANSAM also reaffirmed its stand to continue non-cooperation towards Indian Armed forces until AFSPA is repealed from Naga areas.
