Governor, February 28 2025:
Public trust in Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla may erode if weapons from village volunteers, including those from Arambai Tenggol, are collected in efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state while no action is taken in the hills, allowing firing towards the valley, stated Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeswar.
In a post uploaded on social media Friday, MLA Lokeswar, who is currently in New Delhi, said he received reports and video footage from villagers regarding the firing towards Kongba Maru shrine located in Khudrakpam AC by Kuki militants from atop Mark hill on Friday morning.
He said the firing incident happened while people were performing rituals at Kongba Maru under the cover of central and state forces.
According to the MLA, people's trust placed on Governor Bhalla might diminish if no concrete action is taken to remove bunkers constructed by Kuki militants atop Mark hill range and arrest those responsible for the firing.
He also noted with concern that the firing incident might be detrimental to the Governor's efforts to restore peace.
While trusting the Governor's appeal for the surrender of arms, village volunteers in the valley, including Arambai Tenggol, have returned the weapons they had looted for self-defence.
However, there has been no significant return or surrender of arms jn the hills, and if firing towards the valley continues, the Governor shall have to bear the responsibility, cautioned the Congress MLA.
Demanding impartial action in both the hills and the valley, Lokeswar maintained that consequences of inaction in the hills while controlling the valley with overwhelming deployment of security forces would not be good.
He alleged that the erstwhile BJP government was responsible for the emergence of village volunteers, reasoning that village volunteers would not have armed themselves had the security forces been deployed and acts of aggression by Kuki militants tackled in time.
He then urged the Governor to take up necessary action to prevent unwanted incidents in the future.
