Imphal, January 29 2025:
A day-long Continuing Pharmacy Education Programme was organised by Manipur State Pharmacy Council (MSPC) at State Central Library conference hall, here, on Wednesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Health Services director Dr Chambo Gonmei highlighted the importance of Continuing Medical Education (CME) for medical professionals, and advised pharmacists to participate in CME programmes to enhance and refine their skills.
The director pointed out that many pharmacies operate without proper pharmacy training, while others run their businesses sincerely.
"A need has arisen to identify pharmacies lacking the requisite skills and to take corrective measures," he said, while noting the absence of a full-time Drug Controller in the medical department.
Without a Drug Controller, effective monitoring of pharmacies would be futile, he maintained.
Dr Gonmei also pointed out the need to address the sale of substandard medicines and drugs - a responsibility that falls under the Drug Controller's purview.
He called for action in both the hills and the valley to ensure pharmacies sell only genuine and quality-controlled medications.
While appealing to pharmacies in institutions to carefully inspect medicines received from suppliers, he simultaneously urged doctors to prescribe generic medicines, which are available at reduced rates through government outlets, for the benefit of their patients.
Presided over by MSPC president RK Basumani, the function was also attended by State Drug Controller cum Licensing Authority S Baleshwor and MSPC registrar S Brajakeshor as guests of honour.
