Imphal, July 27 2022:
Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam has drawn the attention of the House to increase the resources of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and make the Corporation function properly during the evening session of the second session of Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
The MLA gave his observation pertaining to demand number 12 of MAHUD during the demand discussion in the evening session.
In his observation, Nishikant stated that truckloads of garbage including plastic bottles and polythene bags are generated from Waisel Maril routinely even though the same is declogged or cleaned twice every month and as such preventing flood during the monsoon session in Keishamthong AC has become a constant battle despite assistance from MAHUD and Water Resources Ministers.
The people of the Constituency dump garbage at river, Waisel Maril and drains as they have no alternatives owing to the absence of adequate dustbins and the vehicles which collect garbage come only once a week, the MLA informed and added that it is imperative to strengthen the IMC so as to solve the issue which has become chronic in Keishamthong and many other Constituencies.
Stating that IMC has limited resources, Nishikant suggested that collecting octroi duty, parking tax, house tax and property tax properly would be helpful in increasing the resources of IMC and making it function fully.
IMC is unable to collect garbage from Imphal City which hardly has six lakhs population routinely, he said and added that in Delhi which has a population of three crore and 22 lakh, garbage is collected everyday by the Municipalities there.
The MLA said that the major reason which hinders garbage collection in Imphal City is inundation at the dumping site.
In view of this, it is imperative to increase the number of dumping sites in Imphal city and collect garbage everyday to keep the city clean and hygienic, he added.
Nishikant further stated that the land value and building value in Manipur is not in sync with the present time and it requires revision.
Stating that collective effort is needed to bring development to the State in true sense, the MLA mentioned that every citizen must fulfil his or her duty apart from demanding their rights.
