Drone Bootcamp for Senapati cops underway

Senapati, August 21 2025:
National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Imphal on Thursday launched a 5-day Drone Bootcamp-20.0 for Senapati for police personnel under the initiative of 'Capacity Building for HRD in Unmanned Aircraft Systems/Drone and Related Technology (SwaYaan)' .
The camp is being conducted at NIELIT, Senapati Extension Centre under the guidance of NIELIT, Senapati OIC Gangmei Gailunglu Kabuini, along with project associate KL Rita Kho.
Specially designed for the district's police personnel, the programme focuses on the 'Assembly of Micro Category Quadcopter Drone' .
A total of 25 police personnel, including the Senapati Additional SP and SDPO, are participating in the training programme being conducted by a technical team comprising project assistants Dairilshing Tarao and AS Themvinah.
The SwaYaan Project is led by NIELIT, Imphal scientist-E (CI) Dr Angom Buboo Singh with technical officer (Co-CI) Thokchom Chittaranjan Singh.
According to a statement by additional SP (NH) ML Kaisungbou, the training aims to impart drone related laws in the present crisis that has compelled the law enforcement agencies to know its exercise and for disaster management, where the police are the first responder to meet any disaster, as well to curb the large scale poppy plantation in the region.
He also emphasised the importance to acquire such knowledge for better functioning in the Police Department as well as a step for upgrading the police force in maintaining law and order.
The additional SP also mentioned that law enforcing agency can use drone for investigation purposes too in near future, while assuring the law enforcement agencies will strive to live up to the expectation of the public.
According to instructor and master trainer Dairilshing Katrimsha Tarao, the first day of the boot camp familiarised the police personnel on history, theoretical knowledge and drone components, whereas the second day will include training them to assemble the components, followed by acquaintance on use of open software on the third day, flying of drones at Astro Turf Ground, Senapati on fourth day with a competition between four groups and culminating with conduct of examination for all the trainees on the final day.
