Wrong to blame all for sins committed by some: Joykisan

Imphal, July 21 2023: While people across the valley are protesting for upholding Manipur's integrity and protection against narco-terrorism, it would be wrong to see the protestors in bad light just because some people have committed wrongful acts, opined Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan.

On Friday, womenfolk of Thangmeiband constituency staged sit-in protest at Ima Panthoibi Shanglen, Thangmeiband Assembly road, in condemnation of the brutal killing of Maring lady Lucy Marem and the naked parading of two Manipuri women, a video of which went viral a few days ago, both nationally and internationally.

Speaking on the occasion, Joykisan lamented that that on-going violence has not only rocked the peace and normalcy in the state, but have many left dead and several others injured, and thousands displaced.

He conveyed that the elected representatives understand the sentiments of the people and extend full support to calls for maintaining administration integrity of the state and fight against narco-terrorists.

Strongly condemning the naked parading of the two Manipuri women, the MLA said that there is no justification for the incident, even if it was sparked by rumours that Meitei medical students in Churachandpur were sexually assaulted.

One should remember that harming any women, regardless of the community they belong to, is equivalent to harming one's own mother, daughter, sister or any female family member.

Manipur had always been proud of respecting and honouring its women and we must always try to uphold the same, he asserted.

Additionally, it would be wrong to put all other protestors in poor frame because of some rotten apples.

Almost everyone has vehemently condemned the incident and the courts will surely punish ' the culprits according to the law.

There is no reason for protecting the culprits at any level, the MLA asserted and appealed to all concerned not to try and demean the movement to save Manipur.

He also emphasised the need for he people to unite and urged all concerned not to be swayed by rumours' .

Informing that a committee would be formed for Thangmeiband AC consisting of a police officer deputed by the Imphal West district SP and clubs' representatives to verify which news/rumours are authentic or fake; Joykisan said that people can verify any related news/rumours through the committee before taking any action.

Thangmeiband Kendra Women Forum president Maibam Inakkhunbi condemned the violence being perpetrated on women and children amid the crisis in the state.

Both sides must remember that every woman is a mother, sister and daughter.

However, this does not mean that the mothers will step away from the responsibility of preserving the integrity of the state.

Thangmeiband AC will form women forces to defend the state even without weapons, she contended.
