Ukhrul, May 19 2024:
A devastating fire ripped through a residential house in Greenland Tang, Ukhrul town, on Sunday evening, leaving only charred remains.
The blaze, believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit around 6.20 pm, devoured three bedrooms and a go-down.
The house belonged to one Ningreishang (Aboipa) Kaping (43).The fire, which started in the centre of one bedroom, rapidly spread in both directions, consuming the adjacent godown.
At the time of the incident, only children were at home in the kitchen, a distance of about seven metres from the bedroom where the fire ignited.
On noticing the fire, the children immediately alerted their uncle, who live next door.
However, by the time help arrived, the fire had already consumed nearly half of the house.
Kaping recounted that he had gone out to buy vegetables from local vendors when he received the devastating news.
By the time he rushed back, the fire had taken a devastating toll, reducing his home and possessions, valued at approximately Rs 31 lakh, to ashes, Kaping said.
The fierce flames were eventually subdued by hundreds of local residents who assisted the Ukhrul Fire Brigade Department.
