Meet vows protest till justice to Kadir

A public meeting held on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Chesam Abdul Kadir of Paobitek Mayai Leikai resolved to launch a series of democratic agitations until all persons involved in the crime are arrested and awarded appropriate punishment.
Abdul Kadir had gone missing on the night of June 10 after leaving his home around 11:30 pm .
His body was discovered on Tuesday morning buried along the banks of Nambul River in Samurou Makha Leikai Maning area.
The recovery of the body triggered public outrage and protests in Paobitek, though the situation was brought under control by security forces.
In response to the incident, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) was formed, which convened a public meeting at the local community hall the same day.
The meeting was attended by leaders and representatives of several civil society and community-based organisations, including the All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO), Committee of Peaceful Co-existence Manipur (CPCM), All India Tanzeem-e-Insaf, All Manipur Muslim Organisations' Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC), United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC), Paobitek Students' Organisation (PSO), JCOC, AMMPACO, Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO), UMPYO, Meitei Pangal Council Manipur (MPCM), All Manipur Democratic Students' Organisation (AMDSO), Peoples Progressive Alliance Manipur (PPAM), Imagee Meira, and former FOCS president Th Manihar.
Speakers at the meeting strongly condemned the "cold-blooded murder" and the subsequent burial of the victim's body.
The meeting noted that such a heinous act has the potential to disturb the already fragile social fabric of the state amid the ongoing ethnic and political tensions.
The meeting adopted five resolutions, including strong condemnation of the murder, demand for the arrest of the prime accused and all others involved within 24 hours, immediate shutdown of the AT Unit-27 QRT branch, and to organise democratic forms of protest.
It further resolved to continue the agitation until the prime accused, identified as Longjam Khaba, and all others involved are booked under appropriate murder charges.
