Many celebrate 79th Independence Day

All Manipur Gorkha Ex-Servicemen Association (AMGESA), in collaboration with the 131 Battalion BSF, celebrated the 79th Independence Day at the Hindi Secondary High School playground, Kanglatongbi on Friday.
In a release, AMGESA general secretary Madan Katwal informed that the function was attended by 131 Bn BSF 2IC Har-dan Charan as chief guest and AMGESA vice president Rajen Singh Bista as functional president, while Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee chairperson Meena Bista and 131 BSF B-Coy assistant CO Variender Singh were guests of honour.
Several state-level Gorkha civil society organisations - MGWU, AMGSU, NSPM, BGP (Manipur Branch) - along with intellectuals, a college principal, local clubs, students, and women also joined the celebration.
NCC cadets also participated in the March Past, it added.
Meanwhile, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, marked the 79th Independence Day of India with vibrant patriotism and heartfelt tributes.
The celebrations began with the hoisting of the National Flag by RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma, in front of the Administrative Block, a release from RIMS PRO said.
The release stated that the flag hoisting ceremony was followed by patriotic songs performed by students.
The ceremony was also attended by RIMS Hospital medical superintendent professor N Sanjib Singh; RIMS dean (academic); deputy director; principals of the Dental College and College of Nursing; heads of departments; chief account officer cum financial officer, senior officials; faculty members; nursing officials; staff and MSS and CRED staff.
As part of the celebration, the director, MS, and officials distributed sweets to patients admitted to the hospital, it added.
Khadi & Village Industries Board (MKV1B), Lamphel also celebrated Independence Day on Friday at its campus.
During the event, KVIB vice chairman Wahengbam Dineshchandra hoisted the national flag in the presence of Board members, MKVTB, National Bee Board (NBB) Manipur and North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) staffers.
In the lead-up to India's 79th Independence Day, the 143 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), stationed at Lamphelpat and its sub-units across Manipur, marked the occasion with a series of vibrant programmes.
According to a 143 Bn CRPF press release, the day commenced with a Tiranga Cycle Rally, which saw participants cycling from the battalion headquarters in Lamphelpat through key areas including Uripok, Kangla Fort, Sagolband, and Naoremthong before returning to base.
The rally aimed to spread messages of national unity, healthy living, and pride in India's independence.
Following the event, a mass tree plantation drive was held at the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, attended by Ravinder Sharma, commandant of 143 Bn CRPF, Peijonma Kamei, director of Economics & Statistics, and other officials.
The formal flag-hoisting ceremony took place at the Quarter Guard of 143 Bn CRPF, where commandant Ravinder Sharma unfurled the national flag and inspected a special guard of honour.
In his address, he paid tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and soldiers who secured India's independence, urging personnel to uphold the values of discipline, unity, arid service to the nation.
As part of the celebrations, a blood donation camp was organised in collaboration with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal during which 33 CRPF personnel donated blood.
The camp was overseen by Dr G Sunil Kumar Sharma, director of RIMS, alongside senior medical staff.
The day concluded with an intercompany football match and a Barakhana (community feast) for the jawans.
