DESAM apprises Guv on education related issues

A three-member delegation of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) reportedly met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Friday and submitted a memorandum highlighting issues relating to teacher education, higher education and school education.
The memorandum sought the attention of the Governor in Strengthening the existing teacher education institutions in the state particularly Government PGTC (DMCTE) and Hindi Training College at the level of Institute of Advanced Studies in Education and make them quality NCTE institutions.
The memorandum also urged the Governor to take up important steps to open 4-year ITEP, which serves as a big mandate of NEP 2020, and opening of Honours with Research of final year of 4-year BA/B Sc in government colleges.
Through the memorandum, DESAM also appealed to the Governor to fill up shortage of teachers for Teacher Education mainly B Ed, M Ed, Hindi B Ed, DIET and ITEP so that norms of NCTE are fulfilled.
It also proposed to the Governor to appoint principal of DMCTE from among candidates fulfilling NCTE norms.
Meanwhile, a statement of DESAM said that Governor AK Bhalla gave a patient hearing to the points raised in the memorandum and assured of taking necessary steps after discussion with relevant officials.
