Farmers urged to adopt multi-cropping

Imphal, January 29 2025:
Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Imphal West in collaboration with District Agriculture Officer, Imphal West organised Imphal West Agri Expo- 2025 for farmers and entrepreneurs at the State Mechanised Farm complex in Lamphelpat on Wednesday.
Organised under the theme 'Soil Health for Sustainable Agriculture', the expo was attended by Agriculture principal secretary Arun Kumar Sinha as chief guest, Imphal West ADC Samir Ahmad Shah as president, and Horticulture and Soil Conservation director K Devdutta Sharma as guest of honour.
DAO, Imphal West S Kenedy also attended inauguration function.

In his speech, principal secretary Arun Kumar emphasised on engaging in multiple cropping for higher yield and urged farmers to focus on value addition.
He continued that the Agriculture Department's responsibility is to help increase crop production or yield, adding that development is possible only when there is coordination between the Agriculture Department and allied sectors like Veterinary and Fishery departments.
At present, the rate of processing and production of high value products is low and needs more focus, he stressed.
DAO, Imphal West S Kenedy said that the expo is being organised with the objective of providing a common platform to facilitate the farmers transfer technologies, share knowledge and market to sell their products.
As part of the expo, 22 Farmers' Interest Group, farmers' cubs and SHGs selected for mobilisation of farmers' interest groups and Women Group Farmers Organisations were honoured with presentation of Seed Money Group Award and Food Security Award along with cash prizes of Rs 10,000 each and certificates.
Farmers were also provided with knapsack sprayers at a 50 per cent discount under RKVY, along with sprayer Sets under PMKSY.
Altogether 34 stalls including those by IDPs staying at Sadar Patel High School, Khurkhul under the banner of Laijinglembi SHG, various farmers interests group including Keingam, farmers' clubs and SHGs along with allied departments of central and state governments, were opened during the expo.
