On Thursday, the installation of property identification numbers for collection of property tax commenced with the installation of the same at the office of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) .

This move entails generation of a unique ID, which should be installed at the front door of every household, he continued, and explained that while people would be able to see only the number after scanning the QR code due to security reasons, the Tax Board staff would be using special apps to scan the code, which would then provide full details of the property owner, address and the type of property.
The installation for Imphal area has commenced from Thursday followed by collection of property tax on completion of the process, he added.
Uttam continued that with an increase in property tax collection, the resources of the municipality will increase, which, in turn, would help in providing proper services to the public.
He, however, warned that if anyone evades tax payment, he/she would be liable for different penalties.
He informed that the property identification number is required while collecting property taxes and also availing the services provided by the IMC.
"A property tax receipt is necessary while selling land, availing bank loans and updating Aadhaar details," he added.
Stating that the people often get dissatisfied while waiting on the government due to IMC lacking the necessary resources, the MAHUD director said that IMC cannot act immediately when receiving complaints of broken street lamps or poor roads.
As such, he urged upon the people to extend their support when the plates are being installed in their residences.
"Even if one removes the plate, they cannot fraud on property tax as everything would be recorded on the office's portal," he explained and appealed to the people to install the plates for ease of collectors, officers and inspectors inquiring about the taxes due and other related matters.
Property Tax Board chairman H Dilip Singh urged the people to extend their support in the collection of property taxes, which are divided into A, B, C, D, E & F categories area wise.
He informed that the minimum property tax to be collected in a year is Rs 600 for private areas, while for commercial locations like Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar, which fall under 'A' category, the tax will be higher, warning that anyone failing to pay the tax in time, would have to pay more as one of the many penalties.
The installation function was also attended by IMC mayor L Lokeshore, deputy municipal commissioner Th Siddartha, Smart City Project CEO Th Harikumar and Municipal commissioner K Chandrakumar.
