AMTDGF resents delay in MGNREGA fund release

Imphal, November 13 2023: Expressing resentment against the state government for the delay in releasing fund under MGNREGA, which had already been sanctioned to the state government, All Manipur Tribal Development Grievances Forum (AMTDGF) said they may be compelled to launch agitation against if the government fails to redress their grievances.

In a release, AMTDGF general secretary Gangonglung Khumba pointed out that the Ministry of Rural Development (Department of Rural Development) had sanctioned a central assistance under MGNREGA amounting Rs 330,13,64,000 for payment of material component for the Financial Year 2022-2023 on March 24, 2023 .

The material sanction amount included Rs 105,81.11 lakh towards material component for FY 2022-2023 and Rs 22,432.53 lakh towards pending liabilities for the FY 2021-2022 (as on 31-03-2022), he informed.

The central government had released 75 per cent of central share and the state government must transfer the said amount along with central share for implementation of works upder MGNREGA.

But the state government completely fail to do so, he lamented, while adding that the state government delayed repeatedly in releasing the fund to all 16 districts of Manipur.

It is ridiculous to mention that the state government released a sum of Rs 100 crore on August 4 to 16 districts under MGNREGA.

The valley based and hills based organisations/forums have been repeatedly appealing to the state government for releasing the said fund but in vain, the general secretary lamented, while urging to release the fund which had been already sanctioned by ministry of Rural Development in the interest of job card holders.
