Imphal, June 06 2024:
Raising concerns over the Modi 3.0 government's plans for the state after taking the oath, Imagi Meira and Delhi Meitei Co-ordinating Committee Women Wing have urged the central government to keep an impartial eye and take steps to restore peace and harmony in the state.
Briefing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata said that the steps taken up by the central government with regard to the ethnic conflict till date have been unsatisfactory.
She continued that the centre failed to be impartial and has been one-sided in the conflict.
As such, a memorandum urging the central government to restore peace and normalcy in the state was submitted to PM Narendra Modi, union minister Amit Shah and defence minister Rajnath Singh on May 30, with copies of the same forwarded to the Manipur Governor and the chief minister.
Sujata went on to say that no action has been taken up against the ten separatist Kuki MLAs, while the remaining 50 MLAs have been unable to say anything in this regard.
If the government is not careful, the state is bound to fall into chaos.
Now, the question is whether the ten MLAs wield more power than the 50 MLAs, she said, while urging the latter group to take a unanimous decision on the matter.
Chipping in, Delhi Meitei Co-ordinating Committee Women Wing convenor Lamabam Ushakiran said that as long as the Assam Rifles does not take firm action against the Kuki militants, there will be no peace in Manipur.
There is huge suspicion mat the conflict occurred in Manipur as part of the centre's hidden agenda, she said.
Casting aspersions on conduct and attitude of the AR, she urged the central government to be unbiased and take action against AR, including conducting necessary investigations.
