Youth drowns after saving two kids in Sengwai River

Imphal, February 21 2025: In a tragic incident, one Khulak Mekha Dangshawa (20), son of Khulak Mophom Dangshawa of Leibi village, lost his life after saving two children from drowning in the Sengwai River, in between Khukandang and Beaularam villages under Machi block on February 15.According to a late report received here, Mk Lazia (7) and Mk Teruiwar (5), both daughters of Mk Morung Kanshouwa, accidentally fell into the river.

Displaying remarkable bravery, Mekha Dangshawa managed to fescue both children but got drowned in the process, sacrificing his own Meanwhile, the Rilram Area Maring Organisation (RAMO) expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of Mekha Dangshawa and extended condolences to his grieving family, while praising his heroic act.

The organisation also informed that the deceased's father, Khulak Mophom Dangshawa, lodged a report regarding the incident at the Machi police station on February 19 .

RAMO has appealed to the government to consider-conferring bravery award to Mekha Dangshawa and also to provide ex-gratia support to the bereaved family in recognition of their loss and the young man's extraordinary Sacrifice.
