Ukhrul, May 19 2024:
Catholic-following families who were displaced from Leingangching village in May, 2010 due a dispute over religious difference and freedom of choice have been resettled through coordination and administration of Kamjong deputy commissioner Rangnamei Rang Peter and SDO Rang David in the presence of priests, functionaries of All Mani pur Catholic Union (AMCU), Tangkhul Catholic Council (TCC) and its unit and Leingangching (S Laho) and Sikibung villagers.
Five families of Leingangc-hing (S Laho) under Sikibung village, who were disbanded by the village authority on account of their conversion to Catholic in 2010, have now been reinstated at the village after 14 years with the liberty to practice faith/religion of their choice.
DC Rangnamei spared time from his hectic administrative duty to bring an amicable solution and made extra effort by convening series of meetings with both Leingangching.and Sikibung villagers through constant touch with AMCU.
At the resettlement programme, AMCU president Dr C Matthew Kamei expressed joy that the village has finally honoured the court's verdict while adding that such a day has come after a long suffering of 14 years of displacement of the faithful.
Expressing satisfaction at the settlement programme, Leingangching (S Laho) village chairman Thanreiwung Shokwungnao called on the Catholic converts to forgive and forget and move on to live as one villager and one community.
