Imphal, May 11 2024:
Strongly refuting the news report circulated by Manipur police regarding the arrest of two individuals from Ukhrul on May 8, the Koireng-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) said that the news report was a part of the deliberate smear campaign against the group.
According to a statement of the orgnisation, the two individuals namely Huidrom Jitanjit (36) and Ningthem Oinam (43) were arrested by 35 AR and handed them over to police.
The alleged seizure of cash, ammunition, walkie-talkie set and Heroin from the two as mentioned in the press handout of Manipur police, however, was not only baseless and malicious but also aimed at tarnishing image of the outfit, the statement said, while clarifying that the two individuals were not engaged in any illicit activities.
The statement of the Koireng led UNLF issued by publicity secretary M Sak-hen further said that the two individuals had temporarily left the outfit's base camp for medical treatment with travel allowances and cell phone.
The items allegedly seized from them were planted by the security forces as part of their routine attempt to discredit the revolutionary movement, the statement said.
While highlighting discrepancies between the initial news report published in a daily based in Ukhrul and subsequent media posts by Manipur police, the statement of the Koireng led UNLF further said that the attempts to tarnish image of revolutionary movement are well known tactics employed by security forces.
