Imphal, April 05 2025:
The All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation (AMMPACO), the All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) and social worker Sakir Ahmed have strongly opposed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 passed by the Parliament in the wee hours today after getting the approval of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
They have also appealed for the withdrawal of the Bill.
To challenge the newly amended Bill and to show their disapproval, AMMPACO has sought the support and cooperation of the Islamic community and State CSOs and organisations to step out of their homes and shout slogans opposing the Bill after the offering of namaz tomorrow in their respective localities or at masjids, madrasas etc.
Speaking to media persons during a press briefing held at AMMPACO Head Office in New Checkon today, president Yumkhaibam Hayatur Rahaman strongly opposed the Bill, which he claimed, stands to cause harm to the Islamic community.
Separately, social worker Sakir Ahmed strongly opposed the amended Waqf Bill accusing the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP Government of attempting to impose the "One Nation One Religion" agenda.
During a press briefing at Manipur Press Club, the social worker asserted that the Bill should be withdrawn as it is a gross injustice to the Muslim community and infringes on their religious rights.
Saying that former Chief Minister N Biren Singh appeared to welcome the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 on his social media, Sakir Ahmed proceeded to demand a clarification from the State legislator to the Meitei-Pangal community.
Meanwhile, AMMSO has termed the Bill as a violation of the Indian constitution and the rights of minority Muslim community in a press release.
AMMSO further termed it as an "attack" targeting the masjids, dargahs, kabrastans, madrasas and freedom of the Muslim community.
The Bill contravenes Article 14 of the constitution which offers equal protection of the laws to all individuals, it said.
AMMSO also expressed strong opposition to the introduction of non-Muslim individuals in the Waqf Board, as per the newly amended Bill.
The organisation has sought the support of students in Manipur, public, clubs, organisations, associations etc to launch democratic peace protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 .
