CCpur, February 27 2024:
The internet ban imposed from February 16 in Churachandpur district in the aftermath of a violent incident on the intervening night of February 15 and 16 is putting lives of the people in real tizzy.
It appears that people of Churachandpur district staying in other parts of the world and students who are largely dependent on internet for studies, tuition, coaching classes, various academics and special course are no longer able to continue their activities due to internet shut down.
Job seekers including UPSC Civil Services aspirants are unable to fill up their application forms though the last date for UPSC preliminary tests is a few days away.
Moreover, the internet shutdown is seriously affected banking and business and commercial activities.
Meanwhile, Churachandpur MLA LM Khaute has lodged a complaint to the chairman of Telecom Commission, New Delhi and to the Manipur chief secretary for restoring internet service in the district.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) had also written a letter in this regard to Union home minister Amit Shah.
The ITLF, in its letter to Amit Shah, said there has been not a single incident after February 15 which amounts to shutdown of internet service and all communities in the district are living in complete peace and harmony.
The letter also mentioned about non-release of ration for nearly 20,000 internally displaced people staying at over 100 relief camps in the district since February 15 incident and strongly called for Centre's intervention.
The Zomi Students' Fed eration (ZSF) also expressed concern over the internet shutdown in the district and termed government's action as highly uncalled for and an attempt to muffle voices of the Kuki-Zomi tribals.
