AAMYA cheers recognition of Manipuri language

All Assam Manipur Youths' Association (AAMYA) expressed gratitude to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for the government of As sam recognising Manipuri as an associate official language in some districts of the neighbouring state.
AAMYA hailed the Assam CM for honouring Manipuri as an associate official language in Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Hojai districts.
Meeteilon or Manipuri, already enlisted in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution on August 20, 1992, longed for recognition as one of the associate official languages of Assam in order to preserve, protect and promote cultural, social and linguistic Identity and heritage of the Meeteis in Assam, it informed.
The demand for the 'Manipuri Associate Official Language' was long felt but it gained momentum when Manipuri Youths' Front of Assam and Women Action Committee for Village Protection came into action, it mentioned.
It also commended Manipur CM N Biren and Assam's Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai for their efforts in granting recognition to Manipuri language.
