Imphal, August 03 2015:
On the first day of reopening of the educational institutes after 25 days over 40 student functionaries of unions managed to outwit the riot police to storm the office of the education minister Moirangthem Okendro on Monday.
The student functionaries from 8 higher secondary schools boarded auto-rickshaws to travel inconspicuously and converge at the secretariat gate.
Before the startled security personnel could lock the gate the students bulled their way through.
They threw their books and smashed some glasses.
They said that while the dead body of Robinhood is in the morgue they cannot study.
They want ILP system and not classrooms.
Police, CRPF and other personnel caned, kicked, punched, pushed and dragged them outside.
Some activists also punched and kicked the police inflicting some injuries.
Some police commandos also yanked the hair of some girls.
Some girls disrobed their phaneks (sarongs) hit and shrouded the fleeing policemen.
In the Manipuri society this is the highest form of humiliation a woman can heap on a man.
The scuffle lasted for more than one hour during which there was traffic jam in front of the secretariat.
At least 11 students were injured and they were rushed to hospitals.
In protest against the alleged police excesses the Dingku road and the Uripok Kangchup road were blocked by the activists for several hours.
