Committee condemns national media reports on 'nude parading'

Imphal, July 21 2023: The Peace and Reformation Committee has condemned reports published by national media houses over the viral 'nude parade' video that the women were raped before being paraded naked.

Addressing media persons at New Checkon Nongpok Engkhol here on Friday, Committee advisor Thok-chom Basanta regretted that some national media have carried news over the naked parading of two women and falsely reported that the women were gang raped.

One of the victims, in an interview to The Print had disclosed that she was not been raped, pointed out the advisor.

While advising the national media to report news based on true events and after thoroughly investigating the same, Basanta said that the committee will not accept any statement made by a handful of miscreants which could tarnish the reputation of a particularly community and finally lead to its de generation.

The comment of Prime Minister Modi over the incident is an attempt to divert the current crisis of Manipur.
