12898.49 litres of liquor destroyed

Imphal, May 19 2024:
In all 12,898.49 litres of liquor, including IMFL, beer and DIC, seized by the Excise Department in March and April months this year, were destroyed at the Department's Lamphel head office on Sunday.
The seized liquor disposal programme was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Excise Th Brucelee as instructed by the Excise Commissioner.
Speaking to reporters, Brucelee informed that a total of 286.43 litres of IMFL (Rum), 255.16 litres of Beer, and 12,356.90 litres of DIC liquor were destroyed.
Estimating market value of the.
destroyed liquor at Rs 1,484,096, he informed that the liquor consignment was seized/recov-ered in between March 1 and April 30, 2024, under Section 69 of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991.The superintendent also confided that the department has been facing shortage of manpower for quite some time, with only 180 staff out of the sanctioned 706 posts.
Though such huge shortage creates problems in effective operation of the department, recruitment process initiated had to be put on hold due to the election code of conduct.
The department will be able to function efficiently as and when the problem of lack of staff could be resolved, he stressed.
