CAU highlights achievements on I-Day

Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at its headquarters and all constituent colleges spread across the seven North Eastern states.
The celebration at the CAU Imphal on Friday was marked with patriotic spirit and participation of faculty, staff, and students.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, CAU vice chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra highlighted the notable achievements of the University during the past year and congratulated all faculty members and staff of CAU.
He stated that during 2024-25, CAU secured 16 patents and developed three new crop varieties, reflecting its commitment to innovation and agricultural advancement.
The University successfully organised its 5th Convocation on May 11, 2025 at the College of Fisheries, Lembucherra, Tripura, after a gap of five years.
The event was graced by the chairman of ISRO as the chief guest where a total of 3617 students were conferred degrees (UG: 2391; PG: 1088; PhD: 138).The vice chancellor informed that CAU has implemented the recommendations of the 6th Deans' Committee and gave priority to capacity building.
Five faculty induction programmes for newly recruited teachers and faculty development programmes were organised, benefitting 120 faculty members.
To enhance academic and research collaborations, the University signed 21 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with various national and international organisations.
Among these, the most significant was the MoU between CAU and the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), signed on August 1, 2024 at Hyderabad House, New Delhi.
The agreement was inked in the august presence of the Prime Ministers of India and Vietnam by Dr Anupam Mishra and VAAS vice president Dao, he said.
On the human resource front, 130 faculty members were promoted under CAS, while 185 technical staff and 131 administrative staff received promotions/MACP, with the orders issued on the eve of Independence Day.
The vice chancellor further announced the creation of 190 new posts (166 teaching and 24 non-teaching) by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, for new colleges under CAU.
Dr Mishra also shared that the long-pending demand of KVK staff, whose allowances had been withheld for some time, has now been addressed and restored by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Government of India.
During the year, CAU organized 11 national and international conferences, seminars, and symposia, pro viding platforms for knowledge exchange and scientific discussions.
The Vice Chancellor also conveyed that Prof.Pradeep Kumar Joshi, former Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), has been appointed as the Chancellor of Central Agricultural University, Imphal for a term of five years.
The appointment was made by the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of the University.
Dr Mishra then lauded the dedicated efforts of faculty, staff, and students in achieving these milestones and urged them to continue striving for excellence in teaching, research, and extension.
