Imphal, September 14 2023:
The election of new executive council members of Zeliangrong Students' Union Barak Valley (ZSUBV) for the tenure 2023-26 was held at Jiribam Guest House on September 12 .
In a release, ZSU Manipur informed that the newly elected nine-member ZSUBV executive council include Duandi Gangmei as convener, Huchunliang Pame as area secretary, R Katathui Rwangmei as finance secretary, and Thuangan Gonmei and Mordecai Kamei as advisors.
Earlier, the election was supposed to be conducted at Kaiphundai village in Tamenglong district on September 11, but there was a disturbing situation created by NSCN-IM cadres led by Khangdi Major and his boys who threatened the student organisation not to hold the election claiming that the order has been given from the higher authority, it claimed.
"It is very unfortunate that the national workers are interfering in the students' affairs without any valid reason.
Their uncivilised attitude and involvement in students' election show that they have no vision for student community who will be the future leaders of the nation.
Such unscrupulous and unethical act is not acceptable in a civilised society," it decried.
ZSUM also maintained that the incident could have turned into a brawl but it being the guardian of the society is matured enough to tolerate the provocation.
Meanwhile, Zeliangrong and its kindred tribe leaders held a consultative meeting with the Zeliangrong leaders of Barak Valley villages at Ranima Gaidinliu Memorial Hall, Binnakandi village, Assam on September 12 in connection with the ongoing political talk with Government of India and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), it mentioned.
ZSUM further conveyed that the same programme was also conducted at Puiluan (Kambiron) village in Noney district at the local community hall on Wednesday which resolved to extend full cooperation and support to the ongoing political talk for 'Zeliangrong Homeland' for early settlement.
