UCM team reaches out to Meeteis in Tripura

A team of United Committee Manipur (UCM) led by its president Joychandra Konthoujam met and interacted with people of Meetei community settled in Kuchainala under Kamalpur sub division of Dalai district, Tripura on Friday evening.
As part the meeting, UCM, Puthiba Welfare and Cultural Society, Agartala, and Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Social Organisation, Kuchainala Kamalpur organised a Northeast Cultural Exchange programme at Kuchainala Bamon Mandop.
During the programme, a cultural team from Manipur performed traditional dances and martial art forms including folksong and Pena performances.
In this regard, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam informed that Meeteis in Tripura about the attempt being made by Chin Kuki narco terrorists to disintegrate Manipur since May 3 last year.
He also highlighted the issues of illegal immigration of Chin Kuki narco terrorists, mass deforestation for poppy cultivation and the attempt to carve their homeland out of Manipur.
He then urged the Meeteis in Tripura to help make it known to the world that the Meeteis are not at fault in the on-going conflict.
Assuring of extending all possible help to the Meeteis in Tripura who want to learn Meetei Mayek; Joychandra contended that the Meetei community can continue to be globally recognisable as long as we continue to preserve out rich art and cultural heritage.
However, lack of knowledge of one's own art and culture among the present generation is worrisome, he remarked, while taking note of disregard of decorum and respect.
Resonating with the saying that "an individual with no love for motherland is as good as dead", the UCM president affirmed that a cultureless society is at the end of its existence, as it would no longer have any understanding of its origins.
As such, UCM had launched the "Eegi Khongul Liba" campaign to save the Meetei communities settled outside the state, he conveyed.
The programme was also attended by UCM vice president YK Dhiren, NE Culture Exchange Festival convenor Ksh Dhanajit and Kuchainala village elders Senjam Lakhibabu and Thokchom Donna as presidium members.
