Imphal, August 09 2025:
Despite holding majority in the 60-mem-ber state assembly, BJP and its allies could not form government and restore democratic governance due to lack of leadership, alleged MPCC president K Meghachandra.
Replying to a query raised by media persons on the sidelines of a programme to mark the anniversary of Quit India movement at Congress Bhawan Saturday, K Meghachandra said there were much talk about formation of a popular government few months after imposition of President's Rule in the state and just before the extension of the central rule.
However, no popular government could be formed due to lack of qualified leader while BJP and its allies continue to blame Congress party, he said.
According to K Meghachandra, there is no difference between popular government before the President's Rule and the present administration as both fail to govern the state.
Accordingly, Congress party had sought fresh mandate of the people by dissolving the state assembly, he said and stressed the need for honouring democracy and Indian Constitution.
Earlier, addressing gathering at the observance function, Meghachandra said Mahatma Gandhi led Quit India movement in 1942 and demanded withdrawal of British from the country.
The movement started from Bombay (now Mumbai) on August 8, 1942 and Mahatma Gandhi called upon every Indian to join the movement with 'Do or Die' spirit.
Several leaders including late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru joined the movement and it yielded success with India getting freedom from the British in 1947, he said and claimed that Congress leaders' movement with 'Do or Die' spirit managed India to get its independence.
